In case you didn’t know, August 11, is National Son and Daughter Day. Sadly, it’s not an observance that leaps to mind for many of us. In fact, we’d wager more people know that August is “International Talk Like a Pirate” month than know August 11 is designated as a day to honor our children here in the U.S.

That being said, this should in no way diminish the importance of this day and the focus it places on investing in those who will one day take our place. It reminds us that not only is it our responsibility to provide for our children, but to teach them, mentor them, and equip them with the skills they will need to build happy, productive lives of their own. With the skyrocketing costs of college and the ROI of traditional four-year degrees increasingly being called into question, the value of apprentice programs, learning a skilled trade, and pursuing one’s craft or passion is becoming more and more apparent to today’s young people.

We’re proud to be an integral part of the Northern Colorado building community, and if you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you are, too. What we do as participants in this industry—and as especially as parents—matters. We build. We influence future generations. And we add enduring value to our communities. If you ask us, those are pretty noble and worthwhile pursuits.

Happy Son and Daughter Day from all of us at ProCode. Now, go spend some quality time with your kids!
